Molly Hammer: Live at Green Lady Lounge Vocalist Molly Hammer is releasing her new recording “Live at Green Lady Lounge” featuring OJT as her band. This Jazz Daddy Records and Green Lady Radio release is available on CD, digital download, and 180 gram audiophile vinyl.
Pick Hits for Radio:New Blow Top Blues This grooving blues tune was written by jazz critic Leonard Feather and originally made famous by the great Dinah Washington. Molly’s dynamic vocal performance reflects the gritty humor of the lyrics about losing one’s mind. Bluesy solos by Brian Baggett on guitar and Ken Lovern on organ propel this track through the instrumental section. Drummer Kevin Frazee keeps the shuffle groove locked in through breaks and solos. Molly finishes the tune with a vocal stops and a shout chorus.

The Story: For all of 2016, Molly Hammer had a standing engagement one Saturday a month where she would come sing at Green Lady Lounge in Kansas City from 6 to 9 pm with the group OJT (Ken Lovern, organ; Brian Baggett, guitar; Kevin Frazee, drums). As 2016 drew to a close, it was clear this schedule was not going to carry on into the new year. Happily, everyone involved agreed that we should record one of these gigs. On this recording you can hear the audience, you can hear the room, and you can hear the magic. It is live, it is real, and now it is forever.
Unpublished Liner Notes: “Live music only happens once” is a truism that attracts audiences to venues to hear the same musicians over and over again, hoping to be present for that magic moment of inspiration. Fortunately for us, a live recording can be enjoyed repeatedly. That is what we have here, lightning in a bottle, ready to be enjoyed whenever the listener is so inclined. Molly Hammer is an inspired performer: a vocalist and entertainer who always gives each performance everything she has. On this recording she is accompanied by Ken Lovern, Brian Baggett, and Kevin Frazee. Collectively known as OJT, these groove masters lay down a deep pocket for Molly weave her vocal magic into and upon. A Saturday night at the Green Lady Lounge in Kansas City is a special night. So, who can blame the audience for yelling out in appreciation?
