Los Angeles, CA:  Singer/songwriter Jesse Palter is set to release her long awaited album, Nothing Standard on March 11th through her own Palter Trail Music.

Nothing Standard is that rare combination of a dynamic vocalist and songwriter matched with the ultimate power trio. Ms. Palter, who hails originally from the suburbs of Detroit, has fully absorbed that city’s jazz and rhythm and blues music traditions and merged them with her finely honed songwriting instincts and voluptuous voice into a glorious performance that appeals to audiences as broad and varied as fans of adult contemporary, singer songwriter, and jazz genres of music.

Nothing Standard finds Palter backed by a tasteful, alternately sensually soulful and hard grooving trio featuring pianist Michael Jellick (Stanley Jordan) and Ben Williams, who has also played with Pat Metheny’s Grammy winning Unity Band. Both musicians were part of the original Motor City-based Jesse Palter Quartet that performed upwards of 250 gigs per year for five years. The trio also features drummer Gregory Hutchinson, (Dianne Reeves, Joshua Redman).

Nothing Standard was produced by Jesse with Chris Dunn, who has worked with Christian Scott, Jazzmeia Horn, Kurt Elling, Dave Koz, Taylor Eigsti, Rita Coolidge and others. It features mostly songs penned by Palter with fresh renderings of “Happiness” from You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown and The Beatles’ “Hey Jude.”

“The album is my take on standards,” says Palter, referencing the relationship between the  songwriter and the performer.  “Sometimes the road to being the greatest, most honest version of yourself is a messy, beautiful scribble rather than a carefully planned straight line, but that makes the journey all the more fascinating.”

Nothing Standard has thus far yielded 3 singles: “Spinning ‘Round,” shared via JAZZTIMES and has been covered by other vocalists in the genre, including one that garnered a Grammy nomination in 2019; “My Sweetie & I,” a track that has thus far collected 70K streams, and counting, is another elegant original composition that resonates with cheeky romanticism and a palpable reverence for classic be-bop, a Palter trademark. In the transcendent “Hold My Hand,” Palter offers an appropriately heartfelt missive that the tune “at its core, is an assertion that in a universe with pain – someone cares.”

With Nothing Standard, Jesse Palter takes her place as one of the next great singer songwriters, stretching her jazz chops into the mainstream of popular American music.
